McCain/Palin: Fear & Smear -Whatever it Takes

Now that McCain's campaign ads have gone 100% negative, it looks like Palin's campaign speeches are going in that same direction. At recent campaign events, Palin has been telling crowds that Obama is "palling around with terrorists" and claims that Obama doesn't see the U.S. like other Americans. The AP is calling the attacks racially tinged. I call it scare tactic. According to The Huffington Post, this is what Palin said at an event:

"Our opponent ... is someone who sees America, it seems, as being so imperfect, imperfect enough, that he's palling around with terrorists who would target their own country," Palin told a group of donors in Englewood, Colo. A deliberate attempt to smear Obama, McCain's ticket-mate echoed the line at three separate events Saturday."This is not a man who sees America like you and I see America," she said. "We see America as a force of good in this world. We see an America of exceptionalism."

Palin's attack is of course in reference to Obama's alleged association with William Ayers, a
member of the Vietnam-era Weather Underground. According to The Huffington Post, Palin's reference was exaggerated and there has been no evidence showing they were "pals" or even close when they worked on community boards years ago and Ayers hosted a political event for Obama early in his career. Obama, who was a child when the Weathermen were planting bombs, has denounced Ayers' radical views and actions.

And at a recent Palin event, Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott took the stage as an introductory speaker and used Obama's middle name in order to incite the crowd who were gathered there.

“On Nov. 4, let’s leave Barack Hussein Obama wondering what happened,” Scott said.

Is the McCain camp really going to go down that road of "fear?" Do they want to get in voters heads that Obama is guilty by association? If he "pals around with terrorists" he must be one? They should be focusing on the economy instead of scaring voters.
